RIP Summer 2010

Image
To me, December is really the start of winter. Unfortunately, I've been wishing it were summer already since before Thanksgiving. I think once it starts to snow I'll embrace the winter. Until then, here is a playlist and some awesome pictures. RIP Summer 2010! Last but not least: My favorite picture from this summer. Ohhh my God. -M

Already missing summer

Very busy week/weekend!

Hey Y'all! Super busy. So I won't be posting. Have a good one!

Onion Appreciation

Image
I would like to take the time to commend onions for everything they do. Today. I made a delicious lunch: a boca burger with lettuce, tomato, pepper jack cheese, onions, and of course ketchup. I also made some french fries from a potato. It was the best thing I have eaten in at least a month. Why onions rule lately: -In my bean chili, it all began with the onions and a bit of apple juice. Mmmm -My brother and Kelly came over for Thanksgiving and thanks to her it was so easy to eat vegetarian. Onion gravy. 'Nuff said. - My boca burger and fries were both cooked in onions, and then I put fresh onions on the burger. They make everything taste so good! Thanks, onions. -M

Planning for winter 2010

Image
This winter I'm thinking a lot about wild patterns and bright colors. I'm a big time fan of minimalistic clothing. My friends always yell at me when we shop because I only seem to buy things that are gray, black, white, a combination of the three, or striped. This winter I'm planning on incorporating little splashes of loud color, but in moderation (this is key.) I'm also intrigued with leopard print blouses/scarves? We'll see on that one. Here are some things from tumblr/satorialist that have caught my eye: SUBTLE leopard print. (Also aren't those the nicest looking jeans?) The perfect purple. (Paul Smith, taken by Satorialist) Also! I've been interested in buying more interesting leggings! More interesting in both pattern, color, as well as texture. I'm bored of the nearly see-through f21 black and white leggings I wear all too often. Honorable Mention/How'd that get there? -M

Variations on a theme

"Every day is an opportunity to make your life the way you want it to be. Anything is possible when you work toward it, one day at a time. Skip a day, and you lose momentum. Try to do it all at once, and you burn out. Steadily, consistently work, making every day count, and you will reach your goals. Today is a chance to grow, to do a little bit more than you did yesterday, a little bit better, a little bit more effectively. Anyone can do a little more, learn a little more, and grow a little more each day. Soon, with consistent effort, those "little bits" add up to major accomplishments. Is there something you want to change? Today is the day to start changing it. Is there a new customer you want to land? Today is the day to start making it happen. Do you need to lose weight? Today is the day to start doing it. Not next Monday or next month, today. You deserve to reach your goals as soon as possible. Control today and you control your life." -Ralph Mars...

l'amélioration de soi

Image
I'm going to be starting a new writing project in the nextfew days. Once I get that started I will post parts/all/some/idon'tknow here. I'm doing excellent. Although I haven't been writing in my private journal like I've wanted to, I'm hoping with this " l'amélioration de soi," that will happen as well. For now, enjoy these: -M

10 Things That Are On My Mind When I Should Be Doing Homework:

Sept. 23, 2010 1. The homework I have to do (Algebra II, SAT reading, a chemistry worksheet) 2. How warm it is this evening (Note: I am not happy about this.) 3. My room is very messy. 4. I have to pick up my dad from the airport tomorrow 5. I can't go to the girls' field hockey game because I have to pick up my dad 6. I go to almost every school game. They are fun. Vincent Gallo: Why he's awesome

Image
I've been on a Vincent Gallo obsessive binge lately. My friend K and I watched Buffalo '66, which I absolutely loved and now has taken the place of The Royal Tenenbaums as my favorite film. He's so brilliant in the movie, and I am in the process of forcing everyone I know (my friends, my art teacher, my mom) into watching the movie so they will laugh when I yell "MY CARS ARE LUXURY VEHICLES. THEY SHIFT THEMSELVES, THEY SHIFT THEMSELVES." I have had The Brown Bunny on my 'To-Watch' list for over a year and Yes, I have seen the infamous last scene of the movie in which Chloe Sevigny (Who was born where I live!) performs unsimulate fellatio on Mr. Gallo. I have also learned that Vincent Gallo is an extremely radical conservative republican (Which I have no problem with whatsoever). He is also, however, an extremely dedicated George W. Bush supporter (Which I just don't understand). Regardless of what political party you consider yourself to agree with...

L'ecole

School has started and I'm already learning quite a bit. At least, in some classes I am. I've been thinking a lot about how I construct my sentences, and while on here it's a lot less formal than say, a paper, but I still throw commas in unnecessarily and frequently have fragmented sentences that I leave. I have to write a 2-page-ish rough draft for an assignment that, while not especially challenging or intellectual, is forcing me to get creative and is certainly interesting to do. I have a few poem ideas, but I haven't had much time to write any. I have been reading Eleven Seconds, by Travis Roy (A summer reading book) but I also bought House of Leaves by Mark E. Danielewski the other day and am so excited to read it. I think it has a Raw Shark Texts feel. Check out this web site I found and now love with all my heart. It's called GoodReads and it's an awesome way to track, review, and rate books you've read, are reading, or want to read. The latter op...

Dear Blogger, I'm in Cape Cod until this Saturday and I'm having an awesome time. I'm all blonde and tan and as Sam's mom says, "Sunkissed!" In recent happenings, Alexander moved out and into an apartment in New Jersey to go to school at/teach at Rutger's. It was very strange to watch him leave but it's really exciting, for both him and Kelly. I'm just really going to miss hangin' with them. My mom also has some excitement going on, she's teaching a class at the college she works at. With only a couple of weeks to prepare both the curriculum and herself, she's also got to send out a booklist, and on top of that she was invited to spend a week in a flat in London the last week of August/First week of September, causing her to miss the first two classes. But it's all no biggie because my mom's the bee's knees and I have no doubt that she'll conquer this without breaking a sweat. As for me, I'm taking it easy- I come...

6:55pm/July 21,2010/ Springfield, MA

A walk to the park, pregnant with the hopes of finding a loophole and a way back in time- a way back to a better us, only provides encounters with people I went to high school with- people we'd hated. And disappointment, when an old bohemian man passes slowly by leaning on his cane, nods at me politely, but does not offer the answers I am looking for. I think, "Come sit at this bench. Tell me about your life. Tell me how to be stronger, how to love harder, how to forgive more. Tell me how to fix this." But he smiles a toothy smile, his beige shirt unbuttoned to the fourth button down blows gently, and it begins to thunder. The bells from the church we went to as children offers a torturous reminder of bygones like slivers of bamboo shoved 'neath my fingernails. As the bells clang three times, it begins to pour and I walk home empty handed, empty hearted.

In a labyrinth of yellowed newspaper they're drilling holes through my teeth & I miss you more than anything else I ever thought I had. After stumbling through my house looking for something that isn't and never was there I feel as hollow as #9

Indian style in my underwear I sit on my bed finally understanding the end of the combination of us. I haven't thought about you in a very long while. At least not like this. I've realized, after so much time, I should take a look at who you are now, and doing so has helped me understand. Seeing you posed all around america with someone you love doesn't hurt, it just kneads my insides in a tugging, tender way that reminds me of heartache but isn't quite heartache. You are exactly what I want for myself, now and in the future. Everything about you is everything I want. And as I am broken into a thousand pieces by a photograph of you by the Lincoln Memorial, Your shirt is sweaty, your eyes are sincere, and I know I will never have you again.
