Mono

Lately I've been remembering my experience having mono this past august-october. Listening to a demo of a song on my brother's upcoming album that I listened to (as well as the rest of the album) while I was sick has brought back so many memories. I'm also laying in my bed with my computer on my lap the exact same way. I just remember being completely drained. Exhausted in every single way. Physically, mentally, emotionally, just fatigued. I was so anxious about school starting and my grades and how long I would be sick for I used to lay in bed for hours crying. I was so tired that I slept literally all day. However, then I would be up for the rest of the night, still exhausted but unable to fall asleep. I ate nothing and drank powerade. Over the duration of being sick, I lost 12 pounds. I just vegged all day with the most excruciating headache. The term ' splitting headache ' made so much sense to me. Strangely, I was very inspired during the time, I had so many...

Just like that

I've been listening to Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon a lot lately. Right now, I'm in a strange place. It's all just a lot of mixed feelings when there is nothing I can do. I'm learning more and more how big of a p art I play in other peoples' lives. I had my Computer Apps final and my religion midterm today. Tomorrow I have french and geometry midterms. J'ai beaucoup étudié pour le français. Not so much for math. I finished Breakfast of Champions today. I think it is my favorite book right now. I don't know. I have to digest it. I'm reading The Lovely Bones so that hopefully PEELZ will go see it, because I know Kara has read it. Bought some cool things at savers today, including unicorn earrings and a temptations record. This is what's going on: Bad Girl I've been a bad girl I ain't playin' fair I want you to be free But I don't wanna share It has always been you.

B&W/Product Placement

I just got home from getting some dinner at Friendly's with my mother. I'm about to leave to go to my school and hear Immaculee Ilibagiza speak about the Rwandan genocide and her experience. For those of you that don't know, Immaculee survived the Rwandan genocide hiding in a cramped bathroom with several other women for months. Her book, Left to Tell, was on our school summer reading list/is part of the curriculum for my honor's english class. It will be interesting to hear her speak, but difficult to be face to face with someone who has endured so much. I'm wearing some clothes. This is what they look like. Also, I'm eating ice cream which will probably give me a belly ache later.

Learning

'Sup? Another thing that's really on my mind at this time and is something I want to make a part of the new year/decade is my education. In my post from New Years' Day where I wrote about my resolutions, I wrote about wanting to make better decisions about school related issues. This is a separate matter from that, in some ways. I have been really interested in learning lately. Honestly, a combination as varied as seeing the films Avatar and Australia, to reading Kurt Vonnegut, to learning about human trafficking in NYC and San Francisco from my friend Michael who is working on a documentary about it, to deciding whether to make my confirmation in the Catholic church or not. I just want to be a sponge and learn as much as I can. I'm also really trying to learn from other people, to admit when I am wrong and try to understand their perspective as much as possible. At the same time, I am trying to get as much as possible out of my school education: learning from teachers...

Sorry I never posted this! This is the best picture we got of the show, it was fantastic. He slowed a lot of songs down but that didn't matter much because you couldn't stand and dance anyway. Rodrigo from Little Joy was there and they played No one's better sake, which was awesome. I have a lot of homework and I start school tomorrow. I'm off!

Little Red Riding Hood & The Big Bad Wolf

I'll remember how you looked in my kitchen the way your voice whistled through your teeth, and how your words hung on commas like delicately placed ornaments your stories and your secrets line the shelves inside my bones bottles of you like marrow sustenance you've lent me i'll never let it go "What a big heart you have got!" The better to love you with, my dear.

Short

Waking up to the sound of traffic and police sirens, he groaned and struggled to lift himself out of bed. He lit a menthol cigarette and took a tour around the house he had lived in for the past 35 years, stopping in each room to remember. As he stepped onto the yellowed linoleum floor of his kitchen, he picked up a stale piece of bread off the counter. Before taking a bite, he tapped the hard, crusty exterior of the bread with a single brittle nail. As he crunched into it, he winced as electric jolts of pain coursed through his jaw. His mustard teeth sunk into the still soft innards of the bread like the way his 8 year old sister's white 2 inch heels sunk into the marshy lawn still soaked with winter's water as the family posed for pictures on Easter morning after church.

Sort of like that vanilla time

Hey Hi Hello Happy New Year! I'm about to post some of a short story I started before vacation but never finished. Last night, Elise, Kara and I ran around E's house eating cold pizza and screaming. We exchanged some Christmas gifts, played with Elise's cat, Pebbles and honestly had tickle fights. I lost. I also rolled around on the floor a lot. My resolution for the new year is to make better decisions. Better decisions about my health, my priorities, my school work, how I handle myself, etc. and also to read/paint/write more.
